Save the date and join the European Week for Waste Reduction in November! Take the chance to be awarded during the Malta Waste Reduction Awards in 2024!

Mark your calendars for this year’s edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) which will take place between the 18th and 26th of November.

Get ready for a week filled with remarkable actions aimed at reducing, reusing, and recycling waste, as well as organising inspiring clean-up initiatives!

This year’s theme is Packaging Waste. In Europe alone, a staggering 173kg of packaging waste is generated per inhabitant causing immense harm to our planet.

The most important thing is that you raise awareness and communicate your action between the 18th and 26th of November, even if you are planning to carry your action before or after this week. Like this, your efforts and actions can inspire others to join the cause.

Registration for the EWWR will open in September 2023 and close in October 2023. Start brainstorming and planning your action today!

The seven categories will be awarded during the Malta Waste Reduction Awards, which will take place in 2024. By developing an innovative action that resonates with a wide audience, you increase your chances of becoming a winner!

The categories include:

  1. Waste Reduction Award for best practice in Administration/Public Entities
  2. Waste Reduction Award for best practice in Associations/NGOs
  3. Waste Reduction Award for best practice in Business/Industry
  4. Waste Reduction Award for best practice in Educational Establishments
  5. Waste Reduction Award for best practice by Individual Citizens
  6. Waste Reduction Award for Most Innovative Initiative
  7. Waste Reduction Award for best practice in a Clean-up

Winners will receive a prize valued at €1,000.

However, in the case of the Waste Reduction Award for best practices in Educational Establishments, the top three actions will be rewarded. This initiative aims to foster sustainable habits and values among students, urging them to become agents of positive change and laying a strong foundation for lifelong environmental stewardship. The winners in this category will be granted prizes ranging from €1,000 to €3,000.
