Support Id-Dar tal-Providenza through volunteering!

Id-Dar tal-Providenza is committed to empowering persons with disabilities in a family-like environment, and a substantial number of volunteers donate their time to help out the Home in accomplishing its mission.

Most of the volunteers are at their Home on a regular basis, whilst others volunteer their time for a particular activity. Regular volunteers at the Home work directly with residents, or in a particular flat, or involve themselves with taking out some residents in the open areas located in the Siġġiewi complex itself, amongst other things. Other help is needed in the kitchen, the laundry, the seamstresses section, and for maintenance in the Siġġiewi site, along with help on the bazaar that is presently open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the St. Isidore Agriculture Centre, as well as the gardens which include more than one hundred olive trees. This kind of support is ongoing and volunteers usually work on a regular basis.

More occasional volunteers usually take part in the two major annual fund-raising events that Id-Dar tal-Providenza organises:

  • The Festa ta’ Ġenerożità held annually on January 1st
  • The Volleyball Marathon that takes place the first weekend of July.

Both require a lot of hands on deck.

At various times during the year, Id-Dar tal-Provvidenza welcome requests from companies and groups that embrace Corporate Social Responsibility and want to involve their staff or members in volunteering their time doing odd jobs at the Siġġiewi Home, or during the two annual events.

Odd jobs include painting where needed, washing of the Homes vans and vehicles, helping out in the kitchen peeling potatoes and onions as an example and various other chores, some of which are seasonal – olive picking is one such activity.

Companies or groups normally contact them directly to explore what can be done at the Home and take it from there. Group numbers, dates, times are obviously discussed and suggestions are made to make the activity a productive but also a positive and rewarding experience for all involved.

Moreover, for this year Id-Dar tal-Providenza is organising a 53-hour Volleyball Marathon, that will be taking place in their Siġġiewi parking lot between 6.00pm of Friday June 30th to midnight of Sunday July 2nd. This needs a lot of hands on deck and around 200 Volunteers will be needed to help out during the event.

Interested volunteers can be reach out to info@dartalprovidenza.org directly.
