Academy of Givers

The 28th of March 2023 saw the 2nd edition of the Academy of Givers’ For Impact Event & Fair, a full-day event surrounding the topics of sustainability, purpose, and corporate responsibility, also acting as a networking opportunity with social and environmental organisations and initiatives at the Impact Fair.

The Academy of Givers strives to find innovative ways to minimise its impact on the environment and encourage sustainability, with this playing a major role in the way the For Impact Event & Fair was organised hoping it would act as an example for other events.

We wanted to ensure the event was sustainable and apart from look into the sustainability methods of the venue, to ensuring no single use plastic was used with regards to catering, reducing as much as possible the amount of printed paper and increasing the use of QR codes and digital means.

In addition to this, the lanyards which were used at the For Impact Event & Fair were individually handcrafted by Vogue Xchange who skilfully upcycled used denim and clothing material. Choosing to get the lanyards from Vogue Xchange allowed us to support local social enterprises. The nametags were printed on FSC-certified paper which ensures that the wood is sourced from forests that are responsibly managed in the most environmentally sustainable way possible.

While it was an in-person event which creates more demand and strain on the environment, a decision to do so was based on the overall impact and outcomes that could be achieved from being in the same space, discussing and networking. For the speakers that were flown down we will be planting trees to offset CO2 emissions and ensured that their visit to Malta coincided with other meetings and commitments, where possible.

The Academy of Givers is all about changing the way businesses and individuals think about and do good. If you’d like to be part of the impact, contact us on info@academyofgivers.org
