Betsson, an Academy of Givers member shares a few words on the UN Global Compact Initiative that they joined. Have a look at the article here.

As an important step on their sustainability journey, Betsson has become a participant of the United Nations Global Compact initiative – a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.

“We are proud to be joining the Global Compact and taking this next step towards strengthening our sustainability efforts,” Betsson’s CEO Jesper Svensson says, and continues:

“We believe in the power of business to drive positive change and are committed to using our resources to contribute to the global effort to create a more inclusive and sustainable world for all.” Jonna Danlund, Head of Sustainability at Betsson, explains why the company took this decision.

“The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate citizenship initiative, with thousands of business participants and other stakeholders from civil society, labour, and government in over 160 countries. This is quite a powerful movement to strengthen sustainable corporate governance, and we are happy to be part of this group of companies determined to make a difference,” she says.

“Our official participation is our way of clearly stating that we want to be part of the change and contribute to a better world,” Ms Danlund confirms.

The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact are derived from international frameworks such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and they provide guidelines for businesses to operate in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.

“The Ten Principles have long been part of Betsson’s Code of Conduct, they are fundamental to any reputable business and align very well with our company values. With our official participation, we now pledge to implement the principles broadly into our policies and procedures. The Power of Principles is strong, and will further support our sustainability efforts,” Ms Danlund says.

As a participant of the Global Compact initiative, Betsson is committed to following a path of continuous improvement in implementing these universal principles, which will be communicated in a yearly progress update.

“We look forward to being part of the dialogue, share best practice and learn from others to promote this important effort,” Ms Danlund concludes.
